Patching Babylon's Bug

As we outlined in our last blog post, our previous testnet, Babylon, was unfortunately rendered unrecoverable due to a chain split bug.

Today, we're happy to announce that on account of our development team having updated the version of Substrate used for Antioch, we have now successfully launched this new network.

Testnet Migration

Unlike most testnet releases, Antioch's sole focus was to fix the bug which crippled Babylon, so there aren't any new features, roles or design changes to explore on the new network.

The most important consideration for existing participants concerns upgrading the software used on the network.

The versions of these tools (including the node software and CLI) released for Babylon will no longer work on Antioch, so make sure to upgrade as soon as possible!

All other testnet data has been migrated from Babylon to Antioch, including balances, forum content, memberships and proposal history. If you're concerned anything is missing or incorrect, please make us aware in the Discord group.

Founding Member Program

Unfortunately, submissions for the Founding Member Program were put on hold as a result of the network being down, but we're pleased to say that pending summaries (for Period 3) can now be submitted.

Council Incentive Changes

As stated many times before, we believe the Council Member role is the most important to focus on during the testnet stage. Not only because the Council is in the centre of the governance system that runs the platform, but also because it's a great way to learn about project.

We want to place more emphasis on the role, and use it as a way to onboard new users. Therefore, we are:

  • increasing the number of slots to 16 (from 12)
  • reducing the term length to 7 days (from 14)
  • making the "announcing" stage last for 4 out of the 7 days, making it easier for Members to apply
  • drastically reducing the recurring rewards, and increasing the KPI rewards
  • making KPI rewards individual instead of "shared"

The first Council will be set by sudo, so the Council that had been elected before the upgrade and chain split fragmented the network, allowing them to complete their term. This will be the last Council following the "old" reward ruleset.

Get Started

As before, we have made available the Atlas media interface here.
Our regular Pioneer interface can also be found here as usual.

If you need any help getting started, we ask you to consult our helpdesk repo first. If you have further questions, post them as Issues there, or ask in our Discord group!

tJOY tokens can be requested through our Discord group (#faucet channel) for those who are new to the project and for anyone interested in participating in one of the platform roles.
